After 4 months of lockdown traders are looking forward to resuming business and many of Donaghadee traders are putting the finishing touches to their shops and stores in preparation for the re-opening of non-essential retail stores on 30th April. . The Donaghadee Community Development Association is encouraging everyone to shop local and support their local traders. Saturday 1st May has been designated “Shop Local Saturday” and participating traders will have a range of offers and free gifts to entice customers
Echoing the views of many of her fellow traders Kate Boyd, owner of Dunn’s Footwear said “Traders forced into lockdown have had a long hard struggle over the past few months and it’s great that we are now able to re-open. Donaghadee has a fantastic range of shops and I hope to see many of our regular customers return over the next few weeks together with new ones. It has been very noticeable that Donaghadee has been a popular place for folks to take their daily exercise during lockdown and hopefully we will be able to persuade them to take time and browse our shops.”
John Caldwell, Honorary Secretary of the Association, is keen to stress the importance of shopping local. He said “Most of our traders have had a really tough time over the past few months. We all need to help our traders get back on their feet and ensure that our vibrant town centre remains in place for years to come. Now is the time to shop like the town depends on it – because it does.”
