A commemorative plaque commemorating 110 years of the RNLI Station in Donaghadee has been unveiled by the new Mayor of Ards and North Down, Councillor Mark Brooks. The attractive mosaic located on the wall of the Community Centre, was completed by pupils from Donaghadee and St Anne’s Primary Schools last year but the unveiling was delayed due to Covid restrictions. It was completed by local artist Martin McClure and features the various lifeboats which have been on station during the period along with individual tiles prepared by the pupils.
The idea for the project came from Evelyn Bennett, chair of the Donaghadee RNLI Fundraising Team and was supported by the Rotary Club of Donaghadee and Donaghadee Community Development Association.
Speaking at the unveiling the Mayor said “Donaghadee RNLI station has a long and proud history and it is entirely appropriate that it should be commemorated by a plaque. I congratulate all those involved in this very worthwhile community project.”
