Coffee shops, restaurants, pubs and clubs throughout Donaghadee have been supplied with sets of drinks coasters which illustrate aspects of the town’s rich history and heritage.  Eight individually designed coasters make up the set, depicting the motte and gunpowder store, the ‘new’ harbour and lighthouse, the railway, the former town hall, the parish church, the Sir Samuel Kelly lifeboat, and the Battle of the Copelands.

The project was initiated by the Donaghadee Community Development Association with help and support of the Dee Tour Guides, the Local History Forum and the Donaghadee Historical Society. The cost of producing the coasters has been met through the Donaghadee Townscape Heritage Initiative, funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund and a Heritage Grant through Ards and North Down Borough Council.

The coasters are being supplied free of charge and customers are encouraged to collect a set for use at home or to send to relatives and friends.
