Helen’s Cashes in her Chips
The winner of Donaghadee’s March photography competition was Helen McMahon with her picture of a group of friends enjoying a chip while sitting on the sea wall. Helen is pictured here receiving a £50 voucher for Grace Neill’s Restaurant from guest judge John Caulfield, owner of Dee TV and Radio.
Speaking after the presentation Helen said “Now that Spring has finally sprung what more enjoyable pastime can there be but sitting with your friends enjoying a chat and a locally produced chip. Donaghadee’s sea wall has been a popular place to sit for generations and I thought this would be a good subject for the competition”
Guest Judge John Caulfield agreed with Helen. “We are one of the few towns where you can sit on a sea wall and we thought Helen had captured the moment very well. Everyone socially distanced but clearly enjoying the chips and the opportunity to have a chat.”
The competition is organised by the Donaghadee Community Development Association. The Association, a charity based in Donaghadee, intends to produce a “Shop Local” calendar for 2022. Each month the judges will choose an image which best captures something about Donaghadee in that month, whether a landscape, community festival or seasonal event etc and the winning photographer is presented with £50 voucher for a meal in a restaurant in Donaghadee. The calendar will be composed of the 12 winning entries and the image judged champion of champions will feature on the calendar cover.
