Early Morning’s a Winner for Cathy
The winner of Donaghadee’s January’s photography competition was Cathy McCallister with her photograph of a fantastic sunrise. Cathy is pictured here receiving a £50 voucher for the Bull & Claw Restaurant from guest judge Linus Menden of The Stormy Cup.
Speaking after the presentation Cathy said “Donaghadee has some spectacular sunrises and the morning I took this one was particularly calm and the lighting, the sea and the birds all seemed to come together at the right time.”
Linus Menden said, “The judges were all greatly impressed by the winning photograph and the combination of the sun coming over the cloudbank, the colour of the sky, the reflection on the water and the birds. Well done Cathy.”
The competition is organised by the Donaghadee Community Development Association. The Association, a charity based in Donaghadee, intends to produce a “Shop Local” calendar for 2022. Each month the judges will choose an image which best captures something about Donaghadee in that month, whether a landscape, community festival or seasonal event etc and the winning photographer is presented with £50 voucher for a meal in a restaurant in Donaghadee. The calendar will be composed of the 12 winning entries and the image judged champion of champions will feature on the calendar cover.
Chairman of the Association, Gary McNinch said “We are delighted that the competition is proving such a success and the photos are of a very high quality indeed making the judges’ task all the more difficult We will launch the calendar in time for the Christmas market and expect a high demand.”
