Donaghadee Commerce & Development Group will once again be co-ordinating
the summer festival in Donaghadee. This year’s festival will
run from Saturday 6th August to Sunday 14th August and the Group
is asking all businesses and organisations within the town to consider
organising an event for inclusion in the festival programme.
from events we are critically short of volunteers to help with the
many tasks associated with the delivery of the festival. These include
obtaining sponsorship, advertising, the preparation of the Festival
Programme and assisting with the barriers, gazebos etc at individual
events. If you, or anyone in your organisation, is prepared to give
some time to assist we would be delighted to hear from you. Please

Donaghadee Commerce & Development Group has worked
closely with Ards and North Down Borough Council to provide a full
weekend of Christmas Celebrations. Highlights this year include
an ice rink, a 5k Santa Fun Run and, of course, the ever popular
Santa Parade organised in conjunction with Donaghadee Rotary Club.
DONATES TO LOCAL NI CHARITY TO HELP SAVE LIVES AT SEA
2nd September: Today, Maxol Hightrees service station (Donaghadee)
donated £750 in aid of the Donaghadee Lifeboat Raft Race which
ran last month (Saturday 1st August) in support of the RNLI*. The
charity, whose volunteers provide a 24-hour service and rescue around
the coast of Northern Ireland, are committed to saving lives at
sea and Maxol is dedicated to supporting this worthy cause.
For nearly a century, Maxol has been part of local life in Northern
Ireland, whether that’s through fuelling people’s lives
or supporting local initiatives, and the leading forecourt convenience
retailer has been a proud sponsor of the RNLI Lifeboat Festival
for the past three years. This year marked the tenth anniversary
of the festival and there was a host of fun-filled activities and
entertainment on land, on the sea and in the air for all the family

RUN TO THE TOWER

of Donaghadee Festival by the same team that run the weekly Bangor
Park Run, Northern Ireland’s most successful Park Run.

harbour in a variety of home made flying machines and outfits in
the hope of winning the £1,000 first prize. In the intervening
period there will be a Living History and Cultural Day; motorbike
trials, an autotest; a live broadcast by Hugo Duncan, sporting competitions,
events to commemorate the outbreak of World War 1, music and dancing.

LAUNCHED TO SAVE HISTORIC LIFEBOAT
Commerce and Development Group has announced that the Annual General
Meeting will be held in the Community Centre at 6pm on Monday 19th
May. This event is open to members and non-members although only
the former category can vote. It will of course be possible to join
on the night. Membership forms will be available that evening or
can be obtained from the Contact Us section of the www.visitdonaghadee.com
website. The annual fee is a token £10.

MAJOR fund-raising campaign has been launched to save the Sir Samuel
Kelly lifeboat which rescued survivors from the Princess Victoria
in 1953 and the Fastnet yacht race disaster in 1979.

SET FOR £2.4M IMPROVEMENT SCHEME
Development Minister Nelson McCausland has announced a £2.4million
public realm scheme for Donaghadee. The Department of Social Development
and Ards Borough Council are jointly funding the scheme which will
