Since 2003 Donaghadee RNLI have operated a Trent Class All Weather Lifeboat. Named “Saxon” it has a top speed of 25 knots and a range of 250 nautical miles. Saxon is fast enough to respond quickly in all kinds of weather and sea conditions. It is ideal for offshore searches and rescue and has the power to tow large boats to safety. The Trent lifeboat also carries a small XP boat which is an inflatable boat with a 5 hp engine. This allows the crew to access areas the Trent cannot reach. Crew exercises take place once a fortnight. Currently the Volunteer Operations Team consists of 13 Crew, 1 Lifeboat Operations Manager, 2 Deputy Launching Authorities, 1 Shore Helper and 1 Medical Adviser.
